Illegal Tobacco. What's the Real Cost?

Sold at pocketmoney prices, cheap tobacco makes it all too easy for our children to smoke and become addicted.
Far from being a victimless crime, the illegal tobacco trade makes it easier for children to start smoking, takes advantage of cash-strapped families, and helps fund organised crime. People selling cheap, illegal tobacco are likely to be selling other things illegally (drugs, fake branded goods and alcohol), exposing our children to more dangers.

Make no mistake.  Cheap tobacco is illegal tobacco.  A decade ago the illegal tobacco trade in the UK was substantial, but we have managed to halve it in those ten years.
The quantities of illegal tobacco on our streets has substantially reduced, but it is still out there and we all have to keep a watchful eye out to protect our children and our communities and help stub illegal tobacco out for good.

Illegal Tobacco - The Real Cost

Far from being a victimless crime, the illegal tobacco trade makes it easier for children to start smoking, takes advantage of cash-strapped families, and helps fund organised crime.

In February 2011 a range of organisations in the South West of England, including those in health and enforcement sectors, turned their focus to illegal tobacco and have been working collaboratively as part of an ongoing programme to stamp it out.

We have been speaking to members of the public, as well as the experts, to discover the real cost of illegal tobacco.  Hear what they have to say in this four minute video.
